My thoughts on the soon to be “Independent Antioch”?

Category: Antioch

Perhaps best summarized by this Jennifer Berman panel from Summer ‘08 (With special thanks to a special fellow who pointed this out today.)

AUUGH!

I’m definitely still in the “cynic” column. Not that I don’t believe the grand sign off will take place, just in that the ‘devil’ will be in the details.

And the financial realities.

And the horribly neglected and abused campus infrastructure that will suck so many of the precious pennies raised right out of the equation faster than more can be raised.

I’d love to be proven wrong, but I’m not running at any footballs either.

So many hopes and dreams, even some friendships have been lost over the past 2+ years of this struggle, I can’t help but be pessimistic right now. Others have said it’s a done deal already and the Friday event is just ceremony, and I hope that’s true but I keep worrying there’s some t that forgot to be crossed and there will be more delays etc.

And I totally agree with you, until we can all see the ‘Final Agreement’ I’m gonna worry and fret about those hypothetical ‘devils’.

I too want to be wrong, cause I really want to get on board but after what happened to Nonstop I’m pretty disheartened and most, if not all, of my optimism is gone right now.

I’m so ready for this part of this to be over.

    But hang in there, it can’t get any worse, right? :) {knock on wood}

(Yes, it’s taken me almost a week to reply, it’s been one of THOSE weeks.)

    Yup, what Matt said.

    Special Fellow indeed!

I should also mention, Bob Fitrakis of the (Columbus, Ohio) Free Press, who had been working with the Greene county complainants just wrote a column on some of his thoughts concerning the new Antioch

The resurrection of Antioch College: A small victory for humanity

Me? I’m simply disappointed to see the complaint with the AG’s office about the university dropped.

Another important thing to note in the midst of all the hoopla over independence is the size of the final agreement: a “750-page closing document.”

I’ll be interested in finding out whether or not all those dotted “i”s and crossed “t”s actually do contain any “hypothetical ‘devils’” or not.

Video stream of the ceremony available here.

I may or may not get to writing about it later.
